(Source: Oregon Health and Science University) - Scientists at OHSU report that children possessing the apoE4 gene, which increases the risk of developing Alzheimer's disease, also show early signs of reduced cognitive function.
Tests performed on children ages 7 to 10 showed that apoE4 carriers scored lower in location recognition and spatial memory retention tests.
These results suggest that therapeutic interventions to delay the effects of cognitive decline could be possible at a much younger age.
